I liked Stephanie's performance on Tuesday night. Apparently I was the only one. I believe Simon liked Chris' performance so I guess I 'm not alone in my deaf ear. I need to get the phone number of LuLu's plastic surgeon. She looked a lot better than she sang. I'm trying to think of a word for Idol fatigue or something to describe the lack of talent this year. Any suggestions.....

This is Vanna....
Maybe I just liked the music, but EVERYONE sounded better last night. You could tell the coaches have performed live, because that is certainly what they prepared the kids to do. I know the judges still put Melinda at the top of the list....but for me, it's Jordin. I think, as they sing different styles of music, we'll find both Melinda and LaKisha uncomfortable when they move away from the style they do so well. But with Jordin, it's such a pure, unmanipulated sound, she may be able to make the adjustment better.
And the guys, Blake is so different he really stands out, that might be a sound that will sell. On the other end Sanjaya--well he did get his moment with a crying fan. You gotta love him, but really isn't at the same level with the others.
(Has the 2nd Chris developed a lisp?)

No Back up for the Back up Singer

I was hoping Brandon would get a few more chances. He has a great voice but forgot the words...as did a couple of others. I was surprised Sanjeya stayed, but I think people really like him. Phil needs to just grow some hair to cover those ginormous ears. He creeps me out a bit. I think Diana Ross looks great. I don't know how old she is but it must be up there. I was listening to her sing and wondering how the judges would rate her performance????

How can we be to the final 12 and hear singing that makes your skin crawl? Not to name any names you know! We can, and will, make all kinds of excuses for these kids--but there seems to be a clear divide between 3-4 good singers and all the rest. My fav last night was Jordin, she seemed to have the whole package. As for the guys, I thought Phil had the best performance. Poor Brandon---maybe he should stick with being a really good back-up singer. I was surprised to hear him sing so flat the entire time. And Haley, who should be long gone, fell apart-breaks your heart to see that! I know the judges liked Chris R, and I agree that he is quite the showman, but close your eyes, would you listen to that nasal sound on the radio? I know this isn't popular, but Simon really seems to give the best evaluation....(this is Vanna, by the way)

Sabrina deserved to stay, I thought, for at least a couple of weeks. No surprises about Antonella. She would have been a big draw on the Idol tour though. Sundance and Jared. I can hardly even remember what Jared sang or looks like. Speaking of looks...Carrie Underwood. She looks great. Greater than great. I know I'm a bit obsessed but I think she must have had something done. She was always a pretty girl but she now looks like a supermodel. Nonetheless, she is an awesome performer.

In case you were caught up in ACC fever last night....here's the list of who went home: Antonella Barba, Jared Cotter, Sabrina Sloan and Sundance Head. I was wrong on all counts!! I'm sure Sabrina would still be there if she had been up against the guys. Oh well...what do I know? Next week, 2 nights and purple (guys-blue and gals-pink makes purple--get it?)!!

As Randy said, it's like 2 different shows between the guys and the girls. Wonder if the guys are up to sharing the stage? Good for Simon...nice show of support for Antonella, and I think we all wish she could sing better. Gina was interesting, not my favorite music, but kudos for being herself. In my humble opinion....Best Voice-Lakisha and Best Performance-Melinda.

agreeing with Simon, I didn't want to jump out of my seat last night. I'm not sure the guys get it when they're told to kick it up a notch. They just sing with more tension and shout. Hopefully they'll relax into it by next week when they share the stage with the gals. Just haven't seen idol material so far.....but there's always next week :o)

Although I thought they were better than last week. I find it hard to believe there will be a guy in the finals. I didn't see the last few. Gotta get those kids to bed but I didn't love anyone. Randy and Paula loved Blake. I thought he was extremely dorky and didn't sing that well. Like I've said before...let's hope it sounds better live than on TV. AJ reminded me of a stripper. Sanjaya is the cutest thing ever but I don't think he'll get too far. Bring on the girls!

Why is it that America always gets it right in the first rounds? I've got to say, I'm sick of the "yelling" singers. I know Vanna knows the technical term, but even my kids noticed it. I'm still wondering why Paula, who is 43ish, dresses like she is 13ish. Whew...we survived 5 hours of Idol. I hope the advertisers are happy!

GO GIRLS!! Saw some real showmanship last night. Some singing out of tune, but nothing like the guys. I'm not sure who I would pick as best. I must admit, I fell asleep during the commercial break after Melinda, the back-up singer. Just heard that I missed the very best...the last one. Really liked Sabrina and Jordan's voices. And no doubt Nicole can sing, she probably has the best technique of anyone. Did everyone vote?

The Guys

I'm not a sound engineer, however, I've got to believe that the acoustics are really bad on that stage. There just can't be that many of the final 12 guys who sing out of tune. I know they're nervous and all but they redefined 'pitchy' last night.
And Simon, comparing the first night to former winners. I think he needs to go back and listen to the tapes for former first nights.
Did you catch what Ryan said when he was barefoot---about being really short without the lifts in his shoes :o)
My 2 favorites are Jared and Phil - just watch, that probably means they'll go home Thursday. Really, any of those guys could win if they can just figure out how to sing in tune on that stage!!

For me the highlight last night was the look on Paula's face when Heather thanked her for the 'Motherly Advice".
But finally, we're ready to hear the 172 talented singers!!! A couple of really nice voices--Paul, who's trying to makeup for Hung, and Ebony, the car hop. I liked that they kept the 'bad' clips brief - if only they would do that for all the early shows.
A nice addition that they are asking for original songs....as long as we don't hear the 'bad' ones :o)

Other Door Please

From the first night of auditions I knew the door thing was going to be a big deal. Pretty funny though. Did I hear correctly...11,000 people turned out? Who gets the job of screening out what we DON'T see? Clearly they are not getting paid enough. I think my favorite of the night was Jimmy (saved for last of course)! Baily, the small town girl reminded me of a mix of Pickler and Underwood. Are we ready for Hollywood? Yes!! Tomorrow night...the best of the best and the worst of the worst.

OK---2 Lessons!! #1 - Back-up singers can actually sing. Learn from Brandon, practice, practice, practice....then just stand up and sing. #2 - NEVER and I mean NEVER think Paula and Randy's at home training dvd will make you a star.

Olivia Newton-John was a breath of fresh air. And from the clips we saw, her class seemed to have rubbed off on everyone else. Paula seemed normal, well, almost.

Did Sherman show us that maybe we need a "Senior Idol"?

I'm thinkin' Paula may not be on something. She's just plain old weird! Again, I'm ready for Hollywood. Chris, with the bushy hair, was very funny, and singing a Seal song. Wow! Who knew? That long hair on the mother and daughter was really freaky. C'mon, Randy telling them several times they had hot hair...what was that all about? Oh,and thank you Margaret, I used to have fond memories of Sesame Street.

ps---from Vanna---once again the whole world thinks if you're from North Carolina you solve your problems with a shotgun....but Jamie is really cute, and a nice voice.

I felt like I was watching Dr. Phil last night. Who says women can't cry their way into things!!
So will Ian get his fame, will the best friends still be speaking and what about Paula and the hot 16 year old, Jenry. By the way, Paula really should stay away from ruffled collars, don't cha think?
I've noticed Simon has added this little stange lower lip thing, maybe a pout? Is that new or had I just not noticed it before?
As for actual singing, I really liked the clear, purity of Sarah's voice.

Whew...I'm just getting over Janita's almost wardrobe malfunction!! I thought Melinda (the back-up singer) was the best. Did you notice how old the contests are? I guess the cut-off is now 28. Also, did you notice how big Simon's man boobs are? Just put him in a black halter....Melinda's long lost sister! Okay, I don't know about you, but I'm ready for some talent!!

It's cold up there

The first thing I noticed was that Simon had his teeth whitened. That's pretty scary that a Brit's dental work was the highlight of the show. Sarah, who sang "Over the Rainbow", was really good. But McPhee did it so well and so often, that's a hard act to follow. Matt seemed to be the only "guy" with any talent. Most of the men sang 3 octaves too high. Must be the cold weather?!

Well, for once I was right about something. I think it's a good thing the voting was over because I thought Taylor was a little "pitchy" all night. I can't believe I'm writing this, but I enjoyed most of the 2 hour marathon. It was a star studded evening for sure. Meatloaf was a little scary to me...both his looks and his voice. I think based on Toni Braxton's performance, she would have been voted off weeks ago. I loved the Clay appearance. How about that hairdo? My daughter, who is 7, and met Clay a couple of times said, "I never thought Clay was hot, but he is now!" We have to discuss why a 7 year old is using the word "hot", but that's another blog. I am not a huge Prince fan but I really liked his songs, especially the first one. My daughter found him disgusting! I'm still trying to figure out if it's Kat who likes her cleavage or her wardrobe people. Maybe she's got the same peeps as Paula! Oh, by the way, I know Bucky had a twin, but I guess Chris does too! Is there a two hour finale to wrap up the finale?
